Research Assignment Overview

Introduction to Workplace Safety Research

Before you’re taught anything formally, you’re going to teach yourself. This week, you’ll research workplace safety and OSHA fundamentals on your own — vocabulary, hazards, PPE — and build your own process for staying safe on the job. Don’t worry about getting it perfect. Week 2 will walk you through the official process so you can see how close you got. You’ll also activate your OSHA 10 Construction Safety account this week — it has to be finished by the end of Year 1, so starting now keeps you ahead of the deadline.

Step 1:
Define each key vocabulary term in your own words

— no copy-pasted definitions.

Step 2:
Build your own step-by-step process for staying safe on the job

Include a detailed annotation for each step explaining what it involves and why it matters.

Step 3:
Write a generalized outcome statement

This paragraph describes what safety competency looks like at CN Signs. What should you be able to do and how will you demonstrate it?

Step 4:
List at least three questions you still have for your supervisor.

These should be specific questions you still have after you have fully researched how to master the month’s competency.
