Our System
Redefining how workforce development occurs in the 21st Century
Training that lives in the work — not in front of a screen
Most “training solutions” hand you software and walk away. CraftED gives you a system — built by an educator, grounded in doctoral research on how small and mid-sized businesses actually build skilled teams.
We studied the problem before we built the product. CraftED’s system comes directly out of Dr. Cole Webb’s doctoral research into apprenticeship and workforce development in the exact kind of businesses we serve. One thing that research made unmistakable: the tools on the market aren’t built for how real companies train. So we built one that is.

The problem we set out to fix
Two things stop good companies from building great training programs: CraftED is built to solve both.
Software that replaces teaching with screen time.
Most LMS platforms sit your people in front of a computer and call it training. But skilled work isn’t learned by watching videos — it’s learned on the floor, from people who already know the job.
Administrative burden that never ends.
Our research found the paperwork, tracking, and compliance work of a structured program don’t stop after setup — they persist for years and usually demand HR capacity a small business simply doesn’t have. That burden is a leading reason structured training stalls at smaller companies — part of why fewer than 0.4% of the U.S. workforce is in a registered apprenticeship, with adoption lowest of all among small businesses.
Operational awareness: our LMS and tracking platform

- A documented skill record for every employee — not a gut feeling
- Real-time visibility into progress, gaps, and readiness
- Built for a small-business context, not a 5,000-person enterprise
Instead of relying on memory or gut feel to know who’s ready for what, you get real-time operational awareness: who’s progressing, who’s stuck, and who’s ready to work unsupervised. Our research found that small and mid-sized employers almost always judge training by retention and stability, without any documented record of capability to back it up. Our platform gives you both — the retention outcomes and the proof of what your team can do.

A system that blends into your workday.
The 4-step training process
Generic LMS platforms bolt training on top of the job. Ours builds it into the job. Our four-step process (L.E.A.D) is designed around how people actually acquire skills and it stays compliant with registered apprenticeship standards, so the same system that trains your crew can qualify you for funding down the road if you ever want it.
Learn — Build the foundation
Employees start with discovering core knowledge behind the work on thier own with system level guidance: when the learner teaches themselves first, they discover ownership over the skill.
Align — Learn your way.
They learn your company’s specific methods and standards, so training reflects how you do the job, not a textbook version of it. This is the most Standard teaching element that we provide. If preferred we will even embed an AI trainer.
Apply — Do the real work.
Skills are practiced and demonstrated in your actual workflow, observed and signed off by the people already doing the job. The learner also reflects on the actions taken in order to understand where improvements can be made.
Demonstrate — Assess and Grow.
Performance is assessed, documented, and Submitted to regulating agencies, if needed — turning a one-time training event into a tracked continuous cycle of improvement and growth.
Train without the burden
The entire point of CraftED is to take work off your plate, not pile more on. Our research was clear here: the administrative load of a structured program — tracking hours, documenting competencies, staying compliant — is exactly what breaks small-business programs. So we designed the system to carry it.
You train your people. The system handles the tracking, the paperwork, and the proof. We’re not selling you software to operate — we’re the external infrastructure that runs it for you, which our research identified as one of the highest-impact moves a small business can make.
Grounded in research, not guesswork
CraftED’s system didn’t come off a whiteboard. It came from a multi-case study of real small and mid-sized businesses running training and apprenticeship programs across manufacturing, healthcare, energy, woodworking, and food processing. That research identified five best practices that separate programs that last from programs that fizzle — and our system is built around all five:
